Schools In Crisis: Training for Success or Failure?

As a dean and teacher, Sommer witnessed firsthand the many deficiencies of the educational system which prompted his investigative journey. He decided to take action. He took a year’s leave of absence from teaching. It’s extremely difficult to examine the schools. Sommer found a solution.

He became a substitute teacher and taught every grade level for one day in 27 different schools in all five boroughs of New York City. Identifying the problems in these schools enabled Sommer to assess the crisis in our educational system.

His exhaustive ten-year study led to his first book, Schools in Crisis: Training for Success or Failure? (free on our website). This book has been heartily endorsed by teachers, university professors, and prominent educators around the country. It has been reported that the book has had a major impact on school reform in New York as well as other states.
