Carl Sommer, devoted educator and successful businessman, has a passion for imparting social skills and character traits for successful living. Sommer has authored over 290 books. These include the award-winning Sommer-Time Story series of 42 motivational books and videos. His storybooks have been translated into seven foreign languages, sold over one million stories, and won over 100 national awards.

Sommer was drafted into the Marine Corps during the Korean War. He then went back to his job as a tool and die maker. Then he became a foreman of a tool and die shop.
At the age of 40, he became a New York City public high school teacher. To become certified, he attended Oswego State University, City College of New York, and New York University. Sommer also became an assistant dean of boys in a large high school where he counseled students and parents. His experiences opened his eyes to the crises in public school education.

He became a substitute teacher and taught every grade level for one day in 27 different schools in all five boroughs of New York City. Identifying the problems in these schools enabled Sommer to assess the crisis in our educational system.
His exhaustive ten-year study led to his first book, Schools in Crisis: Training for Success or Failure? (free on our website). This book has been heartily endorsed by teachers, university professors, and prominent educators around the country. It has been reported that the book has had a major impact on school reform in New York as well as other states.

Born in 1930, Sommer has been happily married since 1955 and has five children and 20 grandchildren. Sommer is an avid reader, and his hobbies include swimming and fishing. He exercises five days a week at home, this includes doing over 100 pushups at one time. Sommer has no plans to retire. He’s in great health and continues to write and develop educational materials.

Sommer is the founder and president of Reliable EDM, a precision machining company that specializes in electrical discharge machin-ing. He started with one EDM machine in Houston, Texas. Today it is the largest company of its kind in North America (ReliableEDM.com). Sommer also has a branch in Broussard, Louisiana. Under Reliable EDM on YouTube, there are over 25 training videos, with over two million views, about the amazing cababilities of electrical discharge machining.
Carl Sommer’s sons work closely with him as he fulfills his passion for excellence and desire to help children become successful. Two of his sons manage Reliable EDM, and another son manages Advance Publishing and Sommer Learning.
